The line was long and the wait was irritating. Kyle watched the clock like a hawk, counting down the minutes until he reached the counter. He looked at the guy making the drinks of a moment before placing his order, a simple black coffee before he paid and moved out the way. But he couldn’t help but keep looking at that one guy so, he decided to speak up, “Little busy back then huh?”
It took Mika a moment to process the fact that a customer had spoken to him. He almost stumbled a bit as he stopped, but managed to steady himself on the counter. “Oh, y-yeah it’s kinda crazy this morning,” he said, offering the guy a smile as he spoke.
“Is it always like this? Because if it is then you’re doin’ good for business.” Kyle replied, keeping his face neutral as he leaned against a spare space on the counter, “All the tables are pretty much full, I’m gonna be standing and drinking.”
“I mean, kind of,” Mika said, shrugging. “And you’re right, it’s good for business, but it’s also exhausting.” And it hardly pays the bills, he thought to himself, feelings bitter as he remembered that he hadn’t payed his rent yet.
“Hard work pays off in the end, trust me.” Kyle replied, the barest hint of a smirk playing on his lips, “I’m sure you can go take a nap or something after your shift has finished…?” He cocked his head to the side, a silent question to what his name was.
Mika shrugged. “Depends. I might end up having something to do tonight.”
“Would that something be going on a date with me?” Kyle asked, raising an eyebrow and smiling a little.
Mika was a bit stunned at the question. Up until this point, he had been completely oblivious to the fact that the guy was flirting with him. Now he was blushing, trying not to smile too wide as he looked down at the counter. “I’ll consider it,” he said, voice a bit quieter than before.
A real, genuine smile spread across Kyle’s face, “That’s good to hear. You have until I’ve finsined my coffee to accept which of course you don’t have too if you don’t want too,” He took out a pen and scribbled down his number on a napkin, “In case I forget later. My name’s Kyle by the way.”
“I’m Mika,” he said, biting his lip to hide his smile as he looked down at the napkin. His day had definitely taken a turn.
“Lovely to meet you Mika,” Kyle took his coffee and sent Mika a wink before finding a vacant seat not to far away from him.
Mika ran a hand through his hair and took a moment to collect himself before putting the napkin in his pocket and turning back to the front counter, where a line was quickly forming again. I'm definitely going to say yes, he thought, a small smile still on his lips. As soon as I'm done taking orders.
Kyle actually enjoyed his time in the cafe which was a surprise even for him. He made sure to drink slowly, giving Mika time to think and just because Kyle wanted to stay longer. Eventually, his phone rang and he frowned, answering in Spanish as he did with all of his work calls in a public place.
Soon enough, Mika had completely forgotten about the cute guy he'd spoken to earlier. Time went by quickly as he took orders and made drinks, his brain only capable of focusing on one thing. It wasn't until much later that he remembered the guy, when the cafe was nearly empty and he had finally managed to clean the place up after the morning rush. He looked around, hoping he was still there.
Kyle was still there, his half finished and now cold coffee sitting in front of him. He was pinching the bridge of his nose, his elbow resting on the table and phone to his ear, talking in rapid Spanish to whoever was on the other side. Needless to say he looked stressed about something. It wasn’t until he noticed Mika, did he hang up the phone and smile at him.
Mika frowned, somewhat concerned as he leaned against the counter. He didn't want to drag unnecessary attention to the guy, so he raised his eyebrows slightly in a silent question of "are you alright?"
Kyle just shrugged a shoulder in reply, not wanting to go into it even though it was a silent conversation. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms and looked at the clock, then Mika, then the seat in front of him and inclined his head as if asking when he went on break or if he wanted a seat.
(I know we just started this but can we take a slight break from the RP or hold off on the angst? Anxiety is really kicking me in the ass right now lmao)
(Ooft, yeah, that’s perfectly fine. If you want to take a break that’s fine or we could just have some gay fluff instead)
(Sorry… I was really looking forward to angst the other day but I gotta make sure I’m prepared for it first lmao)
(Hey, it’s fine. Come back for the angst when you’re ready for it :) )
