"Would you like me to stay with you here?" Kris asks tentatively.

Jess looks around her bare, moldy and damp apartment. It was entirely too cold, even for Jess.

"If you don't mind rats, mice, cockroaches, mold and no real furniture, you can stay as long as you'd like." Jess sighs, limping into the bathroom.

Kris stands and looks around. "…"
"After school is over, I could walk to my house and pick you up, if my mom lets me use her car." She offers. "I don't think she'd mind if you stayed for a while until your foot heals."

Deleted user

Jess shakes her head.

"I wouldn't want to be a bother. I can get supplies for my foot." she says with fake cheer, pulling off her shoes, jacket, her over shirt and skirt, leaving her in a tank top and leggings.

She pulls off her socks and examines the already very swollen and purple ankle.

"Hm. Fractured." she sighs, shaking her head.

Deleted user

"Hm.." Kris replies. "I'm afraid I don't know much about medical stuff."
(sorry for the wait aghasdf)

Deleted user

(It's fine lol, I totally get it; I'm on thanksgiving break, and I've been sleeping a ridiculous ammount because I'm very sick)

"Neither do I, but I need to get my ankle immobilized." Jess sighs, limping out of the bathroom, back into the living room.

Deleted user

(i hope you get better soon!)

"It'd be better if you didn't move it so much." Kris says tentatively.

Deleted user

(Same, but I've been sick for the past four days 😅)

"Probably." Jess shrugs, limping to her bedroom and emerging with a short metal rod and a ratty blanket.

She starts tearing the blanket into a long strip of cloth.

Deleted user

"Wait, Jess. I can run by to the convenience store over there. For gauze. You don't have to do that." Kris gestures behind her in the direction of the store.

Deleted user

(Day six of being sick! Though I'm getting better)

Jess pauses, then smiles politely.

"I'd hate to be more of a bother. You've already carried me here. And besides, gauze gets torn up too easy. The fabric of the blanket is stretchier too, meaning I can wrap it around tighter." she replies.

Deleted user

"At least let me help you, then." Kris kneels down to Jess. "You're not being a bother. I want to help."

Deleted user

Jess looks over at Kris for a moment before finally aqcuising.

"Fine." she sighs.

Deleted user

Kris smiles and holds her hand out, indicating for Jess to hand her the strip of fabric.

Deleted user

Jess hands over the fabric, shaking her head in amusement.

"You are a really stubborn lady, you know that?"

Deleted user

Kris starts tending to Jess. She doesn't look up as she replies.
"Yeah, I'm proud of it."
"Tell me if this is too tight."

Deleted user

Jess pauses, then nods.

"I think so." she replies, slowly standing and testing it.

"Completely immobilized." she sighs, relaxing.

Deleted user

"Girl scouts paid off." Kris says proudly. "Never thought they would. It was mostly selling cookies and stuff. Aside from this 'cause I just- 'cause I just did that." Kris realizes her rambling and stops talking, then stands up as well.

Deleted user

"Yes, you did just do that, and it's amazing." Jess giggles.

"Would you like to stay a while? We have what constitutes as a fireplace - lord knows the room is well ventilated enough for it." she asks cheerfuly, indicating a small brick box.

Deleted user

"Sure!" Kris smiles. She realized her excitement to be with Jess but brushed it off as nothing.

Deleted user

Jess laughs and gets to work starting a fire.

It soon became clear just how poor Jess actually was - she grabbed one of those old Native American contraptions and a medium sized log, setting herself to work.

Soon, a fire was crackling happily in the brick box, the smoke streaming out and getting sucked through the cracked plaster.

"Now, I can't get changed out of these tights." she realizes. "And these are my only good pair."

Deleted user

(OH NO SORRY I THOUGHT I RESPONDED 😭)

"Maybe a bit of an oversight." Kris commented unhelpfully. She sat on the floor, knees to her chest, looking at the fire.
