(oh don’t worry. he’s an absolute neurotic mess— but i figured since he was already so comfortable with Ev, it would be a little easier)
“Yeah, ‘cuz it’s technically my evening,” he replied, hand waving there on the cabinet before he could finally reach the box. “Or… night. I get confused with time.”
Mostly his talking and his excitement was a mask for the little shakiness he felt inside. Perhaps his words were a bit too rushed, and maybe his heart was still beating a little faster than it should.
It didn’t take him long to slide the bowl of cereal over to Ev, resting his elbows on the countertop with his head in his hands.
"Yeah so shouldn't you be tired not super energized?" She asked as she forced herself to sit up and eat. Now that he was fully taking her in one could feel the regret as her hair stuck up at weird angles and exhaustion reflected in her eyes and slow legarthic movements. "Anyways I'll go shopping once we take a nap together because after sunrise I'm going back to bed. Is that alright babe?"
Menek’s breath hitched a little at the nickname, and he had to advert his eyes to keep his heart in place. In a little flash, his hands grew colder— if that was even possible.
“I mean, yeah. But I’m used to staying up,” he replied, knowing full well his sleep pattern was hanging on by thin strands. “And thanks. I’ll absolutely fall asleep after this. And while you’re at the store, maybe get some syrups, too? I’m thinking about making milkshakes. Or just get whatever, and we can make some good food.”
"Oh yes milkshakes. I'd love some." She perked up a bit as she ate her cereal. "And jam. Plenty of jam for you to break." She teased, leaning over the counter and kissing his cheek before returning to her food.
“Yes, plenty of jam to drop on the floor..,” he muttered, a slight sheepish smile following his words. His cheeks seemed to be a permanent shade of red, hands resting so delicately on his chin.
Once he looked back up to look at Ev, he couldn’t necessarily look away again. He smirked so lightly, taking in a soft sigh. “Sorry about that, by the way. I bumped it off the counter.”
"Don't care. You still smashed it and didn't even think about cleaning it up just told me again about your ongoing exisistinal crisis. Not that I'm complaining. We get to do a bunch of dumb shit together and like,I'm down if you're up." She leaned over and kissed his other cheek with a smile.
“I cleaned it, just after I told you about my ongoing crisis,” he replied dully, eyes flickering closed as she kissed his cheek.
“And of course I’m up, for whatever dumb stuff you have in mind. That’s how it is, how it’s always been,” Keke continued, shrugging.
"You only cleaned it because I screeched at you about it." She said with a smile,this time kissing his nose, finishing up her breakfast and sliding him the bowl. "Be a dear and put my dishes in the washer?"
“Once again, I’m not your slave, but.. sure, fine,” he mumbled, taking the bowl and awkwardly walking back to dishwasher, slipping the bowl into one of the sets and dropping the spoon into the utensils slot.
“So, where do you wanna see the sunrise?” he asked, turning back around. “We have the windowsill, which will probably be uncomfortable, or we have the roof, but that might be harder for me to… find shade, if I feel like I can’t take it anymore.”
"We have like a bajillion umbrella's. You'll be fine. We'll make an umbrella shield." She kissed his forehead. "And thank you sugar." She said with a smile. "Anyways I think we could sit in my room since it's got 3 windows. Cuddle up. Keep the lights down low and then when things get to be too much I can just close the blinds."
“Alright, I can work with that,” he replied, walking around the counter to sit beside her on one of the stools. He sat with his back to the table, kicking out his feet like an amused child.
“You take too good care of me, I swear,” Keke mumbled, shaking his head lightly. “I try not to be too much of a hassle, but I guess that’s just a given, huh?”
"Babes have you even met my family? You are not too much trouble. And look at you, taking care of me. I should be giving you thanks." She put her head on his shoulder while she spoke, before leaning up and kissing his cheek. "So ya know. Thank you for breakfast and stuff." Evelyn had a large crazy family that was a lot of handfuls, including a vampire sister. None of them blood related except for her twin Evan,but all family nonetheless.
Ev had always been quite overly affectionate with him, so her kisses were pretty much on-par. Although, with the whole ‘declaration now, Menek couldn’t help but think too far into them, heart doing all sorts of unwarranted flips.
“I know I know,” he murmured, trying to physically pry his mind from the way she leaned on him. “But it’s because you have to, more or less, deal with that. I’d rather be an easy outlet for you more so than another file to be sorted out. Y’know?”
"Sugar. Sweetheart. Pasty face." She kissed his cheek 3 more times. "Chaos is what I live in always. I like you, you're a constant comfort." She nuzzled his neck and continued to kiss all over him, pulling him into a huge hug. "Now quit complaining, if I had a problem with you Worry Wart I would've said something. You handsome dork. Now let's go watch the sunrise."
“Fine. Fine fine fine—,” he repeated, trying to hide his smile. But as Ev kept leaning in and pressing those little kisses to his face that almost tickled, he had to break. With a stifled laugh, he pushed himself from the chair, standing up to stretch out his back.
“Now, can you walk, or are you still too drowsy? Because all aboard the Menek train, I can judo throw you to your room. Or just carry you, whichever you prefer.” He looked back over, a slight tease in his milky eyes. In short, he was just a bit too nervous to deal with anything that was happening by taking it seriously, so he used a bit of satirical humor to suffice.
"Yes chuck me into oblivion. Only kidding. I am awake enough to walk but I am not opposed to being carried." She got up and headed over to the broom closet, grabbing 4 umbrellas. "We'll also make a huge blanket fort, to really add to the atmosphere." She smiled at him cheerfully, and checked the clock on the wall. "But that will have to wait. Sunset is in 10 minutes." So she bolted off to her room and started to set it up.
Menek had to sigh at the sight of the umbrellas. Not that they really bugged him, but the fact that they had so many always tugged his mind back to the fact that he wasn’t normal. That whole living forever, stupid reverse-existentialism, fiasco.
But he just shook his head, trying to throw the thought aside as be he could as he sauntered back to Ev’s room, offering his help where he could in setting up the fort.
His heart beat a little too quickly, too, and he couldn’t tell if it was from Ev or from the fact that he was going to watch the sunrise. He had avoided it pretty much his whole life, except for that one time he got curious and suffered scars for days.
She pulled him into her lap, and made sure everything was staying up, wrapping a blanket around the both of them right as the first golden rays of sunlight lit up the sky, making it an explosion of magentas and violets, bright pink and the dusky blue way at the bottom. She smiled as she watched, looking down at him, wondering just what lights would glitter in his eyes.
It took Menek a little while to actually stop acting like a wooden board as he was pulled in close. One would think, with living with someone as affectionate as Evelyn, again, he would have gotten comfortable with it. But it still took him too long to relax, eyes blinking furiously as he saw the first rays of sun.
It wasn’t too intense to burn him, so it just gave his skin sort of a dull property, like you could see right through him if you really tried. He kept his eyes locked on the sky, unable to keep from smiling.
“I had forgotten what it’s like…,” he whispered, attention fully taken by the enticing colors.
She nodded and then pulled the string connecting all 4 umbrellas, popping them all up at once as the sun rose higher, and pulled him a bit further back. "Yes indeed. Tis one of the many wonders of the world. Just like you." She peppered his cheek in kisses, just happy to feel him against her chest, and in such blissful amazement of something so simple. It made her think about taking stuff for granted, for a moment, but shook her head and just kept her eyes on him.
“Not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not,” he replied absently, gaze still fixated on the window. The umbrellas provided enough shade for him, but to the parts of his skin that were exposed, he could feel little pricks beginning to form. Nothing he couldn’t endure for the time being, considering he was extremely content in where he was. Pressed flush up against Ev, with her kissing him like he actually meant something.
It was only then did he turn, blinking away the burn in his eyes and keeping his smile.
“Why haven’t we done this before?” He asked, his voice still more of a whisper. He wasn’t exactly sure what he was alluding to, either. Looking at the sun or getting together, it was really up for interpretation.
"Sunsets are more of a…a romantic setting for me. So. Didn't want to force anything onto you." She covered his skin with the dark purple blanket to make sure that he didn't get hit as much as possible. Her hands then landed on the back of his and held them close, curling around him completely. "I think that answers ya. Why?"
