Help!
Okay so
Tbh i have no idea either
But
You could be like me and combine several languages that you are familiar with
Or you could integrate other languages into everyday english
For example
“I ate ours gommeux in Novum on Satrdag.
(I ate gummy bears in New York on Saturday)
Okay thats a really bad example but you know what
I’m not creative today
But something like that might work
Its what I do
IS there a website for this thing thats not complicated?
Not that I’ve found
http://rollforfantasy.com/tools/language-generator.php is a website that I found
Do you know how it works? Im a bit confused.
i think you just create the words you want it to be based off of and it translates for you depending on what you typed
Yeah but how?
I think you click translate?
Its not working??
Idk
Everyone always conveniently forgets that J.R.R. Tolkien was a professor of language. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._R._Tolkien If you want to create a language you either have to be super steeped in language like he was and understand language mechanics to build a language properly, or you can go the real world route and choose a foreign language that fits your culture best. THe second one is the easiest. One other thing, if you decide to create your own language you may be tempted to take the lazy/easy route and do what video games like Zelda did. Here's and example: https://zelda.gamepedia.com/Hylian_Language#First_Hylian_Script or https://zelda.gamepedia.com/Hylian_Language_Translations/Ocarina_of_Time which will be fine for short works or series, but eventually if you delve into your story and continue it in a larger series you may have to expand on it even more so.
I might also have to create a language too in mine for my spells and God Magic… I don't really want to and was planning to allude to it. Alluding to foreign languages is easier to show in writing and it can paint a great picture without all of the technical. So if I take any route I may take the lazy route because I am not steeped in languages. Also since mine is a special case where I am actually creating my magic circles and runes I have to have at least an alphabet scrawled down. That could be a start for you. I would suggest looking at cultures alphabets first. Everyone can tell when a person bases a new language off of our English alphabet. I think many consider it lazy. I don't because honestly languages are really hard. Have you tried learning another language? I am way rusty on my second language which is German. Should say was… Anyway, if you look as Japanese for example they have several alphabets and the amount of letters vary. You have phonetic (sounds example: Pha = Fa) based language alphabets and pictorial (pictures) or Sanskrit languages. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanskrit
In German you have sentence structured differently from ours, the word order is turned around. Its been a while so don't quote me here. It would be like the front of the sentence is in the back versus our language where everything is front to back. Uh… well maybe and example is better. I want something to eat. versus Ich will etwas zu essen haben. (I want something to eat have.) Word order is turned. Haben breaks down into (to have) as well. If you translate the same sentence back to English it looks different than the first origin sentence. Here we have the same translated sentence Ich will etwas zu essen haben. And it re-translates to
I want to have something to eat. Now where did have come from? Different cultural ways of speaking. And sometimes its straight forward like ours. I see a dog in my yard. Equals Ich sehe einen Hund in meinem Garten
Only difference here is yard turns to the word garden.
In the grand scope of things I know very little. I hope the helps give you some ideas if you decide to go for it. If not like I said I'm going the easy/lazy route and doing enough to make my magic and that's it. The way I see it if you publish it and it gets majorly popular to the point of a JK Rowling or something you can always hire someone or a team to do it for you. XD
