I want to learn ukulele, but I don't really know where to start. Are there any good free services to help you teach yourself how to play? I can't afford to take a professional class somewhere so I need to be able to do it online. Also, what's a good brand to look for?

Uke is a fairly easy instrument to learn. There are plenty of free online resources and tabs, so I wouldn’t worry about getting any sort of paid class; for uke, I don’t think most people do.
Idk much about good brands since mine is just an old ukulele my grandma passed down to me, but I think one of my friends used a brand called Kala, so maybe look into that one?

I personally have a Kala uke and it's never let me down. And as for learning, I'd have to agree with @Becfromthedead. I just use youtube tutorials more often than not, and try to familiarize myself with as many chords as possible just so it's easier later down the line. Most songs really only need three or so chords, a large percentage of those at least including A, Am, G, C or F, in my experience.

Let me know if I can help, though—I know a few songs, so I can post the chords.

Grow out your fingernails, especially the ones on your strumming hand. It'll keep your fingers fine, and the nails let you pick like you're playing classical guitar.
