Any tips for writing a detailed fantasy war in a novel?
Start in the midst of a battle, show (don't tell) the scene, (setting, atmosphere, tension,, etc.), hover in on a specific character, what they're doing, how they're doing it. The battle itself doesn't have to be taking place at the same time as your novel, it can be a story the main character is reading in a book, or it could also be a battle from long ago, or you could go with the tried-and-true technique of starting in the future and having the main character tell the story up to this point. Slowly reveal the plot of your story, and ultimately home in on the cause of the war, and why it is still happening. Hope you find these useful :).
