So I've made a post similar to this before, but I have a lot of trouble writing lyrics for my songs. I've got the strumming pattern, chord progression, and the general idea of what I want the lyrics to be saying, but I can't seem to organize it into lyrics. I can only think of it as a story. My brain can't break them up into individual lines or anything like that, and trying to give it a syllable pattern and make words rhyme is a nightmare. Somebody please help me. I want to write music but I can't seem to get past this…

I have this problem too, but just with song lyrics, not with poetry (which is really weird considering the fact that they're basically the same thing). I think the reason i don't have that problem with poetry is that I always write free form stuff, and just repeat phrases and stuff like that. I often find that free form poetry is awesome.

@HighPockets group

I went to a class on this at a writer's workshop, and the leader said to basically take an emotion and run with it.
So instead of saying 'He was nervous' go more in depth. So 'He is nervous' changes to 'His arms are heavy, knees weak, there's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti' and I can't remember the rest of the lyrics but like that. Basically 'Show Don't Tell' but on steroids.

Lol I love that you used an Eminem lyric as an example
