Well dads are people too so essentially they're all different in their parenting styles. (Now I'm gonna go out of a limb here and guess you're asking for the father of your boy Paul. I remember you said his wife left when his kids were just a few months old and he raised them alone. IRL He'd probably either work through his pain by emotionally closing off or getting distant OR becoming super protective of his kids. Since you talked about Paul being normal and nice and a bit bored in life I'd personally recommend you make his dad a good guy whos a bit rough around the edges. Like he works hard for his family and loves his kids a lot can be a little tough.) I'm not saying that its an exceptionless rule but in general kids always turn out similar to their parents so take a look at some of the core characteristics of the child and you'll find some of the core characteristics of the father.

@The Seliph-loving Gryffindor who also loves dragons and cats

Meanwhile in my crazed up fanfic, the dad of Act 1's protag is kind of racist and steals him from his mother due to hatred of different races making babies. Fortunately, his son (the act 1 protag) is a good dad who will protect his own son from anything and everything, even if it means he would die the most painful and prolonged death. He also doesn't like his son's flirty attitude, like he doesn't want him to sleep with anyone even when he's a full-grown adult.

@Azuresbend You are right to assume that haha. As always everything you say is incredibly helpful! I think I understand how I want to do him now. Like you described, I'll get to work on that.

Almost unrelated question, Would it make sense that the mother left because she was scared of the responsibility As if the more time she spent with the children the less she felt like she was enjoying her life. She was a happy go lucky thrill seeker before but now her body is "ruined". Is that logical? That's what I am planning on going with but I want a second opinion.

Also Flowerfur, The first dad sounds like someone i'd enjoy hating. That's a compliment.

@Azuresbend

Yeah actually that makes a lot of sense to have a flakey careless character flit from her family. Like she wanted to check the box of motherhood and then got bored so quickly and didn't want to settle into the domestic life of raising children, or taking care of someone other than herself. Great Idea

@Paperok

Alright, that's what I'll go with. Thank you again for the advice! you have no idea how helpful this is :)
