I have the general idea of how I want my villains to play out, but I'm looking for things that would come across as too far. Like, what are different ways that you make your antagonist seem truly evil instead of they're just bad because the main character hates them? What are things you would never consider incorporating into your antagonist?
One of the most important things is that a lot of villians have a certain thing they stick to. Morals and their ambition and their opinion on certain things. And they stick to them like glue. And that's one of the most important things ahout a villain.
Also, yours wouldn't have to, but a lot of good villains think that they're right and just. With that, it makes them a lot more interesting. But depending on what your villains are like, you can make them more interesting than that of one that think they're right. Does that make sense? Sorry, I'm really bad at explaining things. I hope I helped.
I think what makes villains , is not only their evil personality trait , but some good villains make the readers or even the hero to relate to them sometimes , for example a mother that does anything for her children even if that means she has to kill and betray , we would hate her but also understand why she does that , somehow makes them interesting to follow ,
I hope it was helpful

dang, I'm developing a character that is almost it! But I don't consider her a villain, more of a antagonist.
I think I only have 1 villain?
