(Feel free to add yours!)
-If you're on a computer, change the font! Maybe a change will help get your brain turning
-Put your characters in drastic, crazy scenarios to see how they'd react
-Make a playlist for your story
-Make a playlist for your characters
-Take a break, or work on a different project for a bit
Oh, these are all pretty good. I'll have to try some of them. I don't have much to add since I've got chronic writer's block, but I'll try.
-Pre-write a later scene as an end-goal for what you're stuck on
-Avoid distractions while actively trying to write (I'm looking at you, roleplaying!)
-Write the same scene a few times with different outcomes if you're unsure about things. Eventually, something is bound to fit
-Read through some of your older work/earlier drafts. You might get inspired by yourself. Alternately, you might feel a little ashamed, but at least you've improved
What I do is I write, but I don't write whatever story I'm working on, I just write whatever I can. I write stream of consciousness or a journal of sorts or just anything. I find that if I'm thinking too much about other stuff, I cant think about the plot or what I want to accomplish.
on the other side of this, PUT THE STORY DOWN! Just put it away for a few days or a week or something, this will help you get perspective on your writing and can help clear your head so its not just chalk full of frustration and HOW DO I MAKE THE WORDS GO?
-Writing in the morning is great.
-Try to change the scenery. One day I went to New York (Ithaca) With my family, writing there refreshed me and I was able to get over my block. Im nots yang to go out of state, just go to a park or somewhere pretty like the woods.
-Watch random videos on youtube (You'd be surprised how much this actually works)
-Add a new character and Delve deep into them
-Kill someone. Now, don't go juts killing a ahcaracter just to kill one, but if you create a good scene and find it advantageous for your story, then do it.
-Take a break, work on another project, and go back later.
-Put your music on shuffle. wear earbuds and listen to every lyric of the song. Start to writ whatever story comes to mind and force yourself to stop the the song ends. I did this with a. bunch of Taylor swift songs, it really worked!
-Listen to music
-Take a break and maybe look at grammar. because face it, we all need help with grammar lol.
-Hang out with friends or family. It is necessary when writing to have actually experiences. (Ugh)
-Bake and listen to music (Idk, but this always helps me)
-lay in bed with the lights out, earbuds in, close your eyes, and envision your characters and book in comparison to the songs your listening to.
-Write something informal or analyze something.
