So I have a story that has a main group of four guys, and they all pretty much share an equal amount of importance to the story (meaning none of them is really the main, character, they all sort of share the title.) What is everyone's thoughts on switching points of view, but staying in the third person? And, if this is a good idea, should the narrative pass from each character naturally or in a set order? I'd love to hear everyone's opinions on this and how you do with points of view.
a lot of ya novels lately tend to take this route, so it's definitely something that is working! i would recommend reading six of crows by leigh bardugo because it changes povs every chapter to one of six characters (sometimes with a side character's perspective thrown in). everyone gets equal page time, but as far as i remember there wasn't an order to who got to take a chapter when. it is a little harder, i think, to change povs in the middle of a chapter (however, truthwitch does this if you want to get an idea for it), but it's doable! if all your characters are well-rounded, it's fun to write from their perspectives, even in third person because you still get a sense of their tone. go for it!
I'm writing a story with two friends so we have three MC's, we're going to switch POV only when a new chapter starts (prologue being the exception) and I think that it will change between what's convenient.
