forum So I had an idea but I need some help(TELL ME ABOUT MONSTERS/CRYPTIDS BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW JACK)

I had an idea while I was walking my dog(not unusual) and decided I was going to try and make a story out of it! It's set in Houghton, MI because I've been there a couple of times and the woods are just thick and spooky enough to possibly house something scary. Also there's a university nearby, which lets me use some specific characters. Other than the characters and the setting, though, I've got nothing!

So since I don't know shit about monsters or cryptids, I figured I'd ask! I'm looking for creatures that could plausibly live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which can get average temps into the 70s in the summer and dip down into an average of about 10 degrees in the winter(measurements in Fahrenheit, and these are averages–it probably goes down into the negatives sometimes in winter).

So, tell me about some creatures! Tell me a little about them, then link some sources so I can do a little bit of research. Especially if they're from some type of mythology/belief system, since I don't want to mess with anyone's religion. And thank you! :)

I don't know if this is helpful at all because this little piece of lore isn't from the U.S, it's from the philippines. It's called Mananggal. It's this vampiric creature thing that basically splits itself in half and it's upper half flies around taking people and eating them and stuff. If you look it up, you should find some sources. It's the only monster type thing i can think of. Hope this helps :)
