Do you want to get them together pretty soon after they meet, or after a while? Also, what are they impressed by/curious about? Are they social or antisocial?
I have it planned that they are going to get to know each other first (the female character with be like hospitalized while the male is kind of stuck to be with her family because he's from a different dimension) the female is impressed by really anything, but mostly someone who is just as sarcastic as she is and the male is rather a heard person to get through. The female is very social whereas the male is very antisocial.
Well, when I am desperate to do a romance, going through some emotional stuff together, or a long journey with danger at every step, usually works. Of course, if the author doesnt do it right, then it can come off as cliche. Also, take my advice with a grain of salt as I have zero actual romantic experience and learn everything I know from reading.
Like Darkblossom said, going through something emotional or dangerous can help form emotional bonds of any kind, romantic included, so there's always that approach.
Given what you've said about your characters, I might have the girl go after the guy. She could be impressed by something (some skill of his, that he's from a different dimension, a sarcastic comment he made, etc.) and since she's social, she could try to interact with him. Because he's antisocial and hard to get through to, the guy could be irritated by her at first, but then later become fond of her. I'd have the fondness be gradual and not have him realize it until later. He could realize at a completely random, mundane time, or after something emotional/dangerous happens. I don't know who would make the first move—maybe both of them?—but you know your characters better than I do, so you can probably decide that :)
If I got your characters wrong and they wouldn't act like this, I'd be happy to try brainstorming again with more info :) happy writing!
