So, more often than not, I find myself having flash backs to things my characters have done or seen, and it happens a lot while I'm listening to music. (Almost like a music video in my mind.) Some have even helped me develop the stories of some of my characters. I make playlists of these songs and listen to them while I write. The songs do almost always have words, so my family doesn't see how I can write and listen to the song at the same time. I wanted to know if anyone else does this as well. If so, would you like to talk about the different songs and what you relate them back to? Or maybe if any have actually helped develop your story?

@Starfast group

Yeah, I think I kinda do this as well. I've made a few playlists for my stories, and some of the songs really capture the story as a whole, or certain characters. But there's certain songs that I relate back to my characters and sometimes it's just because of one or two lyrics in the whole songs that relate to one really specific aspect of the story or character.

I think one of the best examples I have of this is there's a song by the Revivalists called "Wish I Knew You." There's one line in the chorus that goes "Two strangers in the bright lights/ I wish I knew you, wish I knew you/ Oh I wish I knew you when I was young."
Every time I hear that one line, I have a really vivid image of my two characters, Dallas and Andor meeting each other for the first time. I can see them so clearly just standing under a streetlight at the bus stop, making eye contact for the first time and realizing that some weird shit is about to go down. The rest of the song has little to do with the story or the characters but just that one line seems to fit so perfectly.

@yeetus

There was this (now dead) thread where people posted their story's soundtrack/playlist
Do you want the link to that?

@Starfast I know how you feel. There are some songs like that where I never know if I should add them to the playlist. But still, every time I hear them, I think back to my characters.
Meanwhile, I've also got a playlist they basically wrote one of my characters. Originally she was just a plot device, but now it seems like her and another character may need their own book for their backstories and development.

@hello_darkness_my_old_friend You could link it. I mean, the playlists won't mean as much to me as they do the authors, since I don't know the stories. But, it still may be cool to check out.
