One of my characters just found out they were adopted after 23 years. What would your reaction be?

"Thank god."
"What?" Mother asks in disbelief.
"Well, now I don't have to call you guys my real family. And, since I don't live with you, I can tell you off. Mother, you never listen. You never have. Father, you always insult mine and my friends opinions and turn everything into politics. And, little brother, you are the biggest fing A*** I've ever met. Older bro, you're cool. A little over religious, but cool. You're the only one I'll claim as family."
23 years? Well…that's a long time to wait to tell someone their adopted. Are they female or male? Is there anything I should know about looks (of the parents and of the character) or the way the family acts? Like Isabel's is a good dramatic reaction, if you need a little more shock or a different emotion, I'd be happy to help.
They didn't tell her she found out, so basically they were never going to tell her. Her birth mom was really young when she had Penelope and so her these two people adopted her. They're lol the same race so they'd figure she would fined out and there a normal family, I guess. Mom is a principal of a high school and Dad is real estate agent. Birth mom Pediatric Surgeon.

Well if she is brunette and her parents are blonds, or they have blue eyes and she has brunette– there's scientific proof. But she finds it out and confronts them?
All brunettes (or different shades of brown) all brown eyes. She's getting ready for her baby shower and finds it in a box in her mom's closet when goes to get her birth certificate and then she takes as her friend if it real adoption papers and then confronts her parents about.
"Mom… what is this?"
I'd go with disbelief, then straight into anger.
"When were you planning to tell me? Huh? Mom, I'm twenty-three! Why not earlier?"
Then the big question - why did her mom decide not to tell her, what happened to her real parents. Have her jump to assumptions.
"Were you ashamed? Or just scared? Because you have LIED to me! You've BEEN lying to me!"
"Sweetie-"
"No! I get it, okay!" She was crying fat, wet tears. "But I - after this, I - I'm angry! I'm upset! And I have every right to be!" She slammed her hand down, the papers crumpling in her grip. "You couldn't just - just - I don't know!"
She sat. "I'm twenty-three, mom." Her voice was thick.
"Sweetie, we didn't-"
"No. I'm leaving. I just - need some space. We'll- we'll talk later." Her mom reached out, but she had already bolted out of the room, leaving the crumpled paper behind her.
Just a few ideas, bits of dialogue to get some ideas in your head. I hope this helped!
@Ember Ris thanks it really really did
Thanks for the info!
"Mom, Dad–as you hopefully already know, I'm having a baby? You know what that's like don't you?" She tells them as she sets up for the party, trying hard to hide the apathy in her voice.
"Honey, we know you are probably nervous but–" Her mom begins but she's cut off by (enter character's name, I'm gonna use X).
"Oh wait, no you don't!" X slams box of decorations down on the coffee table and on top is a certificate. She holds her tongue for now as she holds it up for them to see, their shocked horror makes her smile.
"Look what I found going through my baby books for tonight," she chuckles deeply, "I guess you didn't know I was planning on taking it last week when I visited. I was going to return it of course," she places the certificate on the table and begins to pace. Neither one has moved, they glance at each other, wondering if they should speak.
"But now I'm thinking I'm gonna hold onto it a little while longer." She stops pacing and crosses her arms across her chest to face them.
"X, sweetie, we didn't think it was a big deal–"
"It is a big deal, Momma! Well, ugh! I'm sorry, I'm used to calling you that," She moves to the couch and places a hand on her baby bump. "Look," her voice calms as she takes a deep breath, "I love y'all to death, but I deserve to know where I come from. I understand you not telling me for the first 15-16 years of my life, but I'm 23! You had ample opportunity, you will always be my parents–for all I know you saved me from a psychotic bitch. You saved me from a life of poverty, and I could never be more grateful, but you aren't my blood. I'll need to know where I come from and what's in my genes in case my baby ever needs that information." She meets their eyes, this time not with anger, but with sorrow. "I deserved to know."
"We are so sorry we didn't tell you, we made a mistake," Her dad sits on the couch across from her, "We didn't think about that."
"We wanted you to always feel like one of us, a (insert last name)." Her mom sighs sadly, looking at her hands. X knows where they are coming from, she would do the same thing for her baby. She would protect him/her for anything.
She sighs and exhales sharply, "I understand, but that doesn't mean I'm not mad at you, I have every right to be. I still want you at my party and I still want you in my life, you're my family." She smiles at them for a short second, "But get out of my house. I have a lot to prepare and a lot on my mind. (Insert husbands name or best friend) will be here soon."
They nod, but don't respond, moving toward the door. X stays on the couch and leans back in relief, the hard part is now over.
I wrote it this way because she is grown adult with her own child. She is angry, but she's smart and grateful. She will hold this against them, and she will not forget it, but she will learn from it and she will find her birth mother.
When she said "y'all" I got a little excited because she lives in LA but she's from south Carolina
Haha, I say y'all so much you don't even know. Obviously, you can go whichever way you feel best. But if you don't mind, I know i'm here helping you, but could you give me some feedback?
Sure why not
