Words cannot hold grief
Words cannot hold grief
Quite so well as a human
Words are flitting, brief
And though nice, like the ice they are
They melt in the heat of your mind
Humans are made for holding
They are made to carry fat and emotion
Words are made for bolding
With no tone of their own
They must take from tools around them
I cannot shatter you with the papered word
I need the human element of them
To make you cry like a babe or sing like a bird
So no matter how long or brief, words can't hold grief
I leave that to the humans behind them
This is beautiful. <3 I love your use of rhyme that doesn't quite go all the way through and the various metaphors throughout.
Also that second line of verse 2 describes me to a T.
Thanks! I'm glad it turned out the way I wanted it to.
Jocasta Speaks
Oedipus you are scorned
You eyeless freak
You marvel of grotesque wonder
With Freudian psychology
And the most famous riddle
To your name
Oedipus you are
The object of prophecy
Proof of every lesson
About cheating fate
Oedipus we are one
Scored
Ugly
Mad
I rest my sins on your shoulders and tell you to repent
After all, only one of us need wear this weight
Sonnett I
In your embrace I stay so willingly
Your curling arms, your sultry voice, you’re cold
You’re dangerous, I fear you’re killing me
By being deep and dark and strong and bold
I fear for life for love for ticking time
I fear no one will hold me when you’re gone
And so I put my love for you in rhyme
And stand before you in the rosy dawn
You rage and push and pull, as is your way
You roar until your face turns grey and blue
Ever deeper I sink in you today
Love and life are left behind for you
Now let the whitening waves rush over me
Who dared to give my heart to wine-dark sea
(May I post a sonnet I wrote from Hermione Granger's perspective?)
(Of course! As I said, you can post too.)
Fare Thee Well
Behind or above
It’s not that easy
To be left in the dust
While friends march forward
They say they’ll remember
But they never do
And I don't want to be dust
Drifting softly through the universe
forgotten
(Thank you!)
Protego totalum—I cast the charm
That blots you out and locks the locket in
—Cave inimicum—and yet the harm
That severed you from me came from within.
Salvio hexia—would that the spell
Could turn back time and leave the chain unworn!
—Repello Muggletum—I can’t repel
The memory of your bitterness and scorn.
You brainless, spineless, thoughtless, heartless cad!
What charm could choke this eerie jealousy?
How could you disillusion what we had?
With all my strength, why is your weakness me?
Too much at stake to hurt at your depart,
I cast a Muffliato on my heart.
(Oh, very good. Powerful. I love it! The way you incorporated spells is really interesting.)
Thank you! I always felt that Hermione's style of poetry would be the more structured, 'learned' kind. The spells here are all the ones that they used in Deathly Hallows to protect their campsite every time they relocated to a new place while on the run.
Yeah, I recognized the 'Repello Muggletum'. Your attention to detail is admirable.
Persephone Renewed
Mama I am new today
I have eaten these seeds and made my choice
And no force from here to Olympus can change me
Mama I must tell you
That I feel my heart growing colder
As cold as the diamond trees he grows for me
As cold as this dark earth
As cold as my new kingdom
And mama he is everything
He doesn't call me gentle, lovely, small
He calls me queen
Calls me chaos and bloodshed and darkness
He calls me deadly beauty and I cannot return to my small self
Mama I am no longer Kore
Little girl and little sheltered thing
I am Persephone
Chaos Bringer
Queen of Hades, god and kingdom both
And I am never going back
Farewell, Lover
Ghost girl
Ghost girl
Standing at her grave
Sledgehammer it down
Knock out
‘Beloved daughter, sister, friend’
And replace it with rubble
Ghost girl
Ghost girl
Cannot give you everything
Because she isn’t anything
And now she has to leave
Knuckles white on the wheel
Of her boy’s black car
She might visit sometimes
When she comes back to life
When she’s more than single piece
Of her former life
Living girl died
Ghost girl is here
Glass and memories
Scattered across the floor
As the last photo
Is ripped into shreds
As the last picture of living girl
Is gone
Sonnett II
Muse of mine I cannot hold you now
I cannot keep you ever in my sight
Infrequent thing, you crease my worried brow
When you flee quietly into the night
I need you by my side through every day
Not fleeting aid when strange fancy alights
But oh nights when your pity goes my way
We rise ourselves to beautiful new heights
Nations, people spilling from my head
Friendships, family, enemies, and death
I have no need for sleep, water, or bread
I barely have the need to draw a breath
So inspiration, take me by the hand
Together we will make this world grand
Sweet Summer Days
Oh summer child I envy your eyes
Your empty heart
Which feels no pain/happy/hurt/tired/weary
Which feels no more
Summer child with days of heat
Notched along your spine
With
Scars on your chest
From lungs that breathe no more
From frost
That creeps up the windpipe
Summer child
You cough out flowers
Even though
You’re insides are long rotted
Summer child with no pain
Burnt out nerves
Heat building in your shoulders
Stomach
Lips
Summer child who is smothered
By the snow white sheets
Sheets of white snow
Snow white
Oh summer child I envy your eyes
I envy your painless death
I envy everything you are
Oh sweet summer child of mine
You are the nothingness I want to be
Sugar Rush
Sweet girl
You are loved
Tender thing
Doe-eyed and sugar smiled
You are
Spring
All new life
And butterfly wings
You are every gentle thing
Every peach pie
Every summer breeze
You are
My darling girl
My blushing bride
My only
Sweet girl
You are mine
(just a lil thing to poke this lovely post back to life)
I made a promise to you
And you made a promise to me
That we both wouldn't die
And we'd both stay alive
Until we both saw I could see
(forgot this was here tbh)
Hey so I haven't really shared my poetry before so here it goes:
Falling
When you begin it feels like flying
As though you are soaring on sheer joy
And living on the adrenaline of the moment.
And then you begin to fall
And the fall is breathtakingly beautiful
The wind feels like home
And the sky is where you belong.
But then you hit the ground
The intensity of the agony jars your soul
And rips through your spirit
And when you realize that they weren’t there to catch you
You can feel your heart shattering in your fractured sobs.
You stay there for days
As you wait for yourself to heal
And then someone comes and helps you stand
And show you how to fly again
But before you take flight
This time you take a parachute with you.
(Let me know what you think….)

@Bandito Small, but lovely.
