ok so i've been on a writing block for a while now, where i know where i want the story to go, but i'm struggling on how to get it moving that way.
so! to help with that, i've decided to write out each character's backstory, childhood or both!!
i think it's a pretty good way to battle a block and maybe have some fun.
or just be sad i guess, depending on the character's backstory-
so uh,,,, yea! i hope this helps you guys with your blocks too ^^

When I get serious writer's block, I just remember this: What I'm writing right now is only a DRAFT. Nothing is permanent yet. Anything can be changed at any time. Just write!
Power through, even if it feels SUPER forced because you will get un-stuck. You will reach a point when the story no longer feels forced or crappy and before you know it the words will just flow.
And yes, knowing your character is ABSOLUTELY important. The better you know your characters, the more efficiently they will be able to "write themselves" which is essentially what you want. You want them to write themselves so well you look back at your work and are like: "What the crap? I didn't plan this happening!"
So, for now, know your characters. And once you do: just write. Just type words even if they may sound like crud. This part of writing is only the ingredients of your cake. You're just assembling them right now. You can't judge it until it is baked.
Hope this helps with ya'll's writing block XD

  • For me, I've found that working on childhood/backstories seems to help a bit as previously mentioned I have a word document about a significant moment in one of my character's backstories that I go back to whenever I'm feeling stuck. Last time I checked, it was over 4,000 words long.
  • But also, I've found that sometimes it helps just to take a break. Sometimes I'll be having troubles with a particular scene and when I step away from it for a bit, sometimes when I come back to it, it's not as bad as I thought.
  • Sometimes I'll just rewrite the scene. I don't ever erase anything, but sometimes opening a new document and starting over can help
  • Also doing things like making playlists, aesthetic boards, and other fun things like that can sometimes be helpful. It still involves being invested in your story without having to write much.
