Hello! So, I am fairly new to writing and I have a question, but it's going to be kind of hard to explain, so bear with me!
I am currently working on the first pages of my book, and I was wondering how you introduce new terms to readers right off the bat? They really need to understand this one thing on the first page, but I definitely don't want to bore them with the whole history of this world. Am I better off to just make them wonder what she's (the MC) exactly referring to in the first page or two (I personally hate when I am confused on the first page!), or should I try to write a brief explanation? I DEFINITELY don't want her to directly address the reader like, "Of course, you don't know what the means. Let me tell you!"
Any suggestions? I hope this makes sense . . .

You could try putting a glossary in the front of the book if you can't work definitions in naturally. Several book series do that.
Also if you wanna work it in naturally you could have character A go, "Wow you're a/have a/ from:"
and person B go: "Yes, Vague/choppy explanation, haven't you ever heard of them before?/ Are you an idiot?"
