Okay, so my story revolves around two characters, Eloise and Vira. Both of them begin Having shared dreams, where they can talk to each other, though they cant see each others faces. Over the course of the story the two learn of a mysterious girl who is comatose in the catacombs beneath the royal palace. Eventually, through complicated events and dream shenanigans, the two hatch a plan to reach the girl (because of reasons). Here's where things get complicated. Both of them arrive at the mysterious girls chamber to find it empty, the other not being there. They're both in a bit of a hurry so they grab the sleeping girl so they can make their escape. then something weird happens, they change positions and suddenly the entire world is different. similar, but not quite the same. buildings are in different places, people they've known their whole life have different names and don't recognise them, etc. It turns out Vira and Eloise live in entirely different worlds, called Khantis and Istuvia. Both girls did arrive at the chamber when they were meant to, but it was the chamber in their own world. And the sleeping girl? It was them. In Khantis, where Vira lives, the sleeping girl is Eloise, and in Istuvia, where Eloise lives, the sleeping girl is Vira. When they touched each others sleeping bodies they swapped worlds. Vira's body in Khantis fell asleep and her body in Istuvia woke up, and the opposite happened for Eloise. Now, this is understandably confusing, and my problem is that i have no idea how to guide readers from the assumption that they both live in the same world, to the realisation that there are two worlds, in an understandable yet suitably dramatic way. Any tips?
