so i noticed in one of my favourite books that a lot of the dialogue tags are like in the example below:
"What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?"
"Knife to the throat?" asked Inej.
"Gun to the back?" said Jesper.
"Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina.
"You're all horrible," said Matthias.
(six of crows, leigh bardugo)
in this scene, each dialogue tag (asked, said, suggested, etc.) comes before the character's name. i don't notice it this way too often, so i was wondering what everyone's preferences are? do you tend to write the tag before or after the character's name? i definitely prefer it after when i'm writing, but what's everyone else's thoughts?
