Other than just not wanting to be in a kid's life (like not wanting the kid) why can't a dad be in the kids life.

Maybe because he's in jail? lol
He is constantly working to provide for the family.
Just doesn't even recognize the child is there half the time

Deportation, restraining order, things to do with divorces etc..
