1) A child needs a blood transfusion, life depends on it.
2) Parents refuse to allow their child to receive blood transfusion for religious reasons.
3) The doctor gives blood transfusion anyway.
What happens now? Can the parents sue? Would the doctor be punished?

This is a question of ethics more than legality, but it BECOMES a legal question when the parents decide to take legal action. Depending on the state, nothing really happens given the fact that the parents can't be charged for negligence, nor can the doctor be sued for disobeying the parents' orders because it was in the best interest of the child.
