so, theoretically, in my story, a hole was ripped in the universe and through it came all manner of mythical beings/ races/ creatures. I had said that all of the ones that weren't bad to the humans stayed and weren't sent back through the portal. that doesn't work, does it? because then that means that there are a bunch of different magic systems and gods that exist and contradict each other's powers. that's unreasonable, isn't it? so how can I reasonably decide what kinds of creatures came through other than "these ones showed up because they're the ones i wanted to write"?
I think the ones that stay should be the ones that want or need to be there. Sure, the Wrothians haven't started killing humans yet, but they're still here because their home is a complete wasteland due to their warmongering ways. Finding a place with so much green would be PERFECT for them, especially because the food wasn't too good on their homeworld. Their god also happens to despise the Nopon's god of peace and mercantilism, though maybe not directly. I think a whole lot of races that contradict each other in such wild and varied ways would most certainly lead to a conflict. Maybe humans are the peacemakers, or it takes 100 years of war for everyone to finally calm down (except for the Wrothians. When they're not killing, then they're usually just mean).
thats a really good idea, thank you!
If Zeus shows up it's going to be conflict city because Zeus will stick his dick in anything… but I think you could definitely develop a story in how everyone reacts to finding out about all these other systems of magic and perhaps some intellectuals just want to compare systems and do theoretical research but there's also people who are like my god is supreme what do you mean this guy is also the god of this? Fake news! And that leads to conflict and there are lots of language barriers which confuses things further. Perhaps also the rip in reality only opens to certain areas because it's only so big isn't it? There's a finite reach to how far into the hole you can go, so you've only got creatures from the worlds the rip could reach, and maybe a few traveling ships got sucked in as well if you want to add some spice into it. Or if you only want very specific people (such as could be fit onto a ship or two) you could say the hole got ripped into an obscure corner of the universe where these people were convening for some reason. Did I hear Inter-dimensional Comic Con?
"Hi, we're from the dimension where sugar is dangerous contraband, you're all under arrest, including you guys drinking Co-kah Co-lah."
