i'm creating a sci-fi fantasy universe rn. heavily inspired by Ava's Demon with her aliens, gods, and magic. i love the web comic so freaking much

@Yamatsu

I've got something like that going on, where it's like the Monster Hunter world met Post-WWI America. Dragons and sandships, but we also have toasters and vacuum cleaners.

@Yamatsu

Because how else do you expect a blacksmith (or a housewife) to clean up a metric butt-ton of dust in a timely manner?

I’m trying to build a fantasy sci-fi world but having so much trouble.
I have guns and moterbikes but sailing ships and swords.
No robots, but there are IPad like screens.
It’s sort of like pirates in sci-fi

If you think Star Wars, were the dress isn’t modern but they have cool technology m, that’s what I’m going for. I just don’t want to be the same.
Modern technology ( slightly advanced) mostly in city’s and towns. Wind turbine power and hydroelectric dams.

Tablets work as phones, notepads, and file holders
No internet
No AIs or robots
Trains are the main transportation.
jeeps are used in the country
Moterbikes exist but are rare, and considered old.

Some people use guns but their smaller and sleeker. Poisoned darts are also used a lot, just more so a metal blowgun

In the center of the capital city is the walled white castle. meant to be old architecture, but futuristic elements are woven in. Automatic lighting, trains out side the door, etc. The outer rim of the city is filled with very colourful building.(an idea, but I don’t know what they would look like.)
Should I have skyscrapers? But then I feel like their out of place.

One thing I have trouble with is how to have futuristic swords without lightsabers,
And how to have people on trains who don’t stick out because of their clothes. ( I suck at fashion)

Ok that’s all I can think of at the moment. Thank you

With the whole futuristic sword thing, think of it from two angles.
1) Why does the sword need to be "futuristic"? Less, just a normal sword works fine in a sci-fi setting. You can just have the colours look futuristic
2) What about cool abilities that's not from the blade itself? Say, the sword comes with a wristband with a button. If you lost the sword and press the button on the wristband it comes back to you. Or what if the sword comes with a flamethrower on the hilt. This is sci-fi, go as crazy at you like, your audience won't question it on how weird it is
