Okay, so insensitivity comes in multiple forms. For some people, it is that they are naturally too analytic to properly show empathy/sympathy. For others, they merely just have a disdain for people or plain out do not care for them. Of course, there is more to it than this binary sometimes. This can certainly affect how a character reacts to being called insensitive and/or feels about it. For example, someone could tell your character that a loved one of theirs died. As one knows, there is a multitude of ways this could be reacted to, such as:

  • I don't care
  • How did they die?
  • Are you okay?
  • Is your family okay?
  • I'm sorry for your loss
  • Tough luck

Etc. A choice few of these could be seen as hurtful or insensitive, even the less blunt ones, which leads into another factor of insensitivity. It will not be the same in all eyes. Doing writing exercises with characters is a great way to explore how they would react to certain situations/emotions. You could also ask for a writing partner to help you out with these interactions and help you overall improve. For example, if you are an inexperienced role-player/writer, the beginner's lounge on this site seems to be a good playground to improve your character interactions as you could be put through a myriad of situations within an RP. Action, romance, adventure, angst, heartbreak, murder, problem-solving, and so much more could be covered. And if you allow, your partner could give tips on improvement.

I would be more than happy to help you further if you wish, if it were to mean being an RP partner, general writing partner, proofreader, editor, or something else that you need. Good luck with your writing and don't be afraid to contact me!

Yo. Just recently came back to this site, so I hope I'm not a little too late. If you wanna plan something out with me in DMs, just shoot me one. Or if you just wanna go for it in a thread. Anything's good with me. :D
