In my universe, my character is just learning about a magical world, and meets some experts that can explain things to her. Problem: if I was her I'd have a lot of questions, but as a reader I know I'd think the author was lazy for just writing a pages long conversation explaining it all. How can I answer my character's questions in a way that's spaced out over enough of the book that it doesn't get annoying, but doesn't feel unrealistic from the sense that I know most people would want to ask a ton of questions.
Maybe just cover a few basics and then have something happen so that nothing else can be explained to her at that time? And then have her forget about her questions until the next opportunity, like when they’ve caught a break from running, or are done fixing a catastrophe, or are bunking down for the night, or when someone uses a new type of magic?
I like that idea. Breaking up the moment with action will totally work. Thanks so much!
If you've read Harry Potter, you'll notice that J.K Rowling doesn't usually address things until they come up, and even then, it's presented as a dialogue between Harry and the other characters.
