I'm trying to come up with a kind of currency for a universal trading post. The idea is that once you enter the trading post's area, whatever currency you have (yen, pesos, euros, dollars, etc) turns into the trading post's currency. Does anyone have any clue what the currency should look like? What should it be named?
Well, most currencies have the coins and then also have paper money. Think about how advanced your society is, too. If it's rather primitive they will likely only have metal coins, or even something else. If it's around where our society is, then there would be coins and paper, as well as some form of digital transaction (credit/debit cards). If it's more advanced than our society, then there would likely be only digital currency. In terms of what it should look like, it might have a simple design or a famous leader of the country (like us dollars).
To expand on @Eren 's post, you could also have capital cities on your money like on the Philippine peso, or the national animal or plant.
