So I’ve been working on my world for my story and I feel like I’m missing something. So in that case what is the most important things that you want to know about a separate world when reading a book. I have the main things like government, creatures and morals and a magic system so is there anything else y’all can think of that I should establish?
( I’ve just been inspired and I need to do something with it tbh)
Here's a few things I can think of right off the bat
-social do's and don'ts, traditions, common phrases, stuff along those lines
-overall social climate (are people more realistic ore hopeful? Is creativity admired or frowned upon?)
-is this world like a planet or just like an earth au
-currency?
-What does popular culture look like in this world. What are the most popular songs/books/movies, etc.?
-How does this world view gender/race/class/etc.?
-What games are popular?
-What's it like being a kid vs. being an adult?
-What does religion look like and how does that influence the culture?
- Politics are important. Racism, sexism, classism, etc etc? Controversial topics (such as in America, abortion and BLM)? Do political groups have names? Do your characters identify with any of these groups? Which ones? (could cause uneccessary conflict, but fun if you want to try it out)
- As mentioned above, culture. What do people really enjoy doing? Generation gaps (Gen Z vs millenials vs baby boomers)? Culture of big cities that your characters will have heard of (ex. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans)?
- Conflicts between any countries (China vs America vs Russia)? Big-shot countries (America, China, UN doesn't really count but)? Stereotypes around countries/continents (is Canada even real, Africa can be portrayed as a wasteland, etc) So, basically, global relationships?
- Technology. How far has tech been advanced? What about medical tech? Is there a stigma around mental health? What kinds of physical and non-physical disabilities are there in your world? You mentioned a magic system, so that could probably be probed for some
I know this is kind of an old thread, but I'm procrastinating actually working on my story so here are a couple I came up with just now
