The calendar and timeline events that happened in the world system I am creating is something I keep coming back to, and having the absolute need to start fleshing things out.

I know the calendar will have 20 months, with 20 days of the week, spread across a 7 day week. There are more than 24hrs in a day, but I haven't done the maths to find out excatly how much more there actually is.

Further, I know that an event happened many years ago, in which saw this world change in such a way that it went from what we [homo sapiens] consider when looking at our calendars. How this will work ingame I'm not fully sure on, but I will try and work something out.

In the spirit of taking what we already know about our real lives, I have come to the idea that this world will have two major sects of Historians, each will have their own "Correct" timeline, and will require a third sect for the GMs perspective of reality.

Because I haven't started creating content yet, these may be newbie questions I could find out myself, however I am wanting to try and find out these things before I start working as it may need to be reorded before I even get started.

  • Is there a way to create unique calendars with Notebook? I know sometime ago, I created a calendar using DonJon Fantasy Calendar ( https://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/calendar/ ) and would be interesting to see if something like this could be created here.

  • When creating Scenes, will this create a Timeline? Is there any plans to have a timeline view at any point?

I had more question but didn't write them down. Hopefully we can edit posts ^.^

Hey, this is an awesome idea, and one I've thought about from time to time. I appreciate you sharing it, because it makes planning for such a feature quite a bit easier when I hear more sides: the hardest part about building something so open and powerful is that it needs to find a balance between being super simple (and probably not accommodating every thing someone wants to do with it) and being super powerful (and perhaps being a bit too hard to use for some).

Definitely not newbie questions! We've got an issue for creating custom calendars but it's still very much in the planning phase. The DonJon Fantasy Calendar will be super useful to see how other tools have done it, too.

I'd like to incorporate Scenes eventually into the building blocks of a timeline. When I picture it in my head, I see creating a timeline with an empty line that you can drag and organize scenes onto to depict the order they happen, but also branch off and show timelines happening at different locations or representing things like subplots.

In the meantime, I've been exporting my scenes as a CSV with the Notebook downloads link (in the top-right of every page) and importing them into Excel / Google Sheets and rearranging them that way to have some semblance of timelines. It works, but I can't wait to build something that works better. :)
