So, I'm planning on doing a fan fiction based on the Avatar universe, based after Korra. Due to starting the next avatar cycle, it's going to pass roughly another 80 years. This means technology will advance again, and the world will change once more. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas to offer as to what might change or what might not change. Was even considering doing a new bending. I was thinking of having the spirit world and the mortal world being connected cause a new bending type to be created, maybe by energy or even another lion turtle or something. Thoughts?
I'm not up to date in terms of the energy bending, lion turtle, darkness whatnot, but I get the feeling that because planes, trains, and automobiles were significant, then maybe there could be some new modes of transport based on Earthbending. I was thinking something like "The Fall" from Total Recall, an elevator that can shoot you literally from one side of the world to the other. Computers may become significant, and Bending might become more complex. Airbenders and Earthbenders could create lightning from air molecules or dust particles, Firebenders could become welders in factories, Waterbenders could advance medicine without the need for some machinery by moving medicines and blood throughout instruments or the body itself (imagine getting a shot, but the medicine itself is manipulated so that it pierces the body without the need for a needle and it can move faster to immunize folks quicker).
To be honest, I don't think that new forms of Bending are needed, just more creativity as technology and general knowledge advances.
Gotta say, I never thought about advancing technologies in the medical fields. That's one thing the Avatar series doesn't touch much on, but it would be awesome to start having more modern type hospitals pop up. Thanks for the idea. As far as the elevator, that sounds cool, I'll look into it.
And I was considering other ways of using some of the bendings; it's actually one of the highlights of my fanfic. I'm going to have an airbender that grew up similar to Toph, how she learned from Badger-moles, but instead of Bison, it's just nature in general, so he knows how to use air to manipulate other elements. I have a metal bender who has only a hilt of a sword that he changes to whatever weapon he desires at the time. My water bender starts off as the weaker of the group but at one point pulls moisture from the air in an area with now water. And the firebender I'm considering doing something with combustion, but not like Sparky or the girl from Korra where it's from the head. I almost picture its like him throwing poprock fireworks, only way more dangerous.
