My characters have a lot of animal pals.
Princess Fotia has a loyal black wyvern named Ryna. Kyro has a basilisk, but he's afraid of snakes, he only got her because the first pet you receive will be with you forever. Princess Fyllo loves all animals, and even befriends a monster. (Monsters are animals that are so heartless that they are the only animals allowed to be hunted in most lands.)
The villains have some animal buds too. Emperor Hronos has a poodle dog named Perfect that is always besides him. Despite being as loyal to Hronos as Ryna is to Princess Fotia, she is cruel and likes to abuse Fyllo's pet sphynx cat, Leo.

It seems I cannot even come up with plot ideas that do not include animal pals. Which is funny considering I don't really want a pet in real life.

With my main story I'm working on, the main character owns a horse and is great pals with the three guard dogs his best friend owns. The best friend also has a horse, and another character is friends with a tabby cat which is actually a human in cat form. And there will probably be more animals added to the crew as the story goes on.

My Half-Dragon character Yama has a Chain Chomp. He uses her like the Ball and Chain from Hyrule Warriors and feeds her metal scraps, nuts, and bolts like kibble. He also needed to train her to not gnaw on the anvil in his forge or on any of his weapons or tools. She jumps on top of him to lick his face, but she can't do that with anyone else or they'll be crushed. She acts like a dog, but she goes limp when her chain is grabbed. She doesn't mind with Yama doing it, but anyone else gets a bite (keep in mind, they're like frickin' bear traps).

All my Sovereigns have a Guardian animal (sort of spirit animal, I suppose) that they can call on in times of need or just to hang out! Like my gal Vajra has a massive black panther
