There's a web novel I read that I really like, and it has both a manga and a light novel adaptation. People say that the light novels are the best of the three, but at a certain point it starts to break away from the original story. I'm curious as to what makes them better than the original, but at the same time I feel that if I start reading now, I'll just be like "THAT'S WRONG! THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!" the whole time. So what do you all keep in mine when you decide try try an adaptation of your favorite works?

If the cast looks like the characters, and the story stays more or less the same.
For example, I love the Anastasia musical more than the movie, mainly because of Derek Klena the fact that they adapted out the more goofy aspects of the animated movie, such as the dancing bugs and the albino bat, and replaced them with a more realistic villain, and also added depth to characters like Dmitry, Vlad, and Lilly.

I don't expect things to be exactly the same, obviously. But if there's a description of the characters then make sure the cast looks like the character, instead of oh, i don't know having a blonde haired character have brown hair???And the plot should still highlight the most important things. Like if there's this one plot device in the books, and it's used in the movie, make sure it stays mostly the same. Instead of a totally spiraling into a different plot that was not in the books. yes im talking about percy jackson

@NobleWolf

I knew you were throwing shade at the pjo movies when I saw the blonde -> brown thing XD

But I just don't want to end up conflicted, because what if I like this adaptation but can't accept it cause it's not the original?
