I want to create a world where there is a class of magical creature and each different person can possess a different type of power. For example, a fae has basic characteristics that are similar to everyone, but each fae can have a magic power that is unique to them or to a couple people. I want something like that but not the term fae. I want to be able to call them something else. I feel like the terms wizards or sorcerers have too much of a connotation that everyone can master the skill of magic if they have the gift, but I want only some people to have specific gifts.
Here is a list of sorta human like characters that aren’t over done:
Doxy – A small fairy-like creature that is also known as the Biting Fair
Imp – Imps are found in Britain and Ireland where they are the same height as pixies.
Banshee – A female spirit who heralds the death of a family member, usually by shrieking or keening
Dwarf – A short stocky humanoid creature. (This one is more common but not completely over done)
Veela – semi-humans, greatly attractive
Boggart - An amortal shape-shifter non-being that takes on the form of its intended victim's worst fear. British mythology describes boggarts as house-elves who cause trouble or malevolent beings inhabiting marshes or other lonely spots
Tokeloshe (Zulu mythology) – diminutive, hairy humanoid with various magical powers
Nymph - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nymph
Pombero - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pombero
Clurichaun - Irish fairy resembling a leprechaun.
Gwisin - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwisin
Haltija - A spirit, gnome, or elf-like creature in Finnish mythology that guards, helps, or protects something or somebody
Hope that helps
P.S.
I own none of these
Crystshire: A fox with a red crystal pelt.
I got this from an ASMR video from Goodnight Moon so it's not mine
This was so incredibly helpful. Thank you so much
