“All units, there is a high speed chase in progress. Suspect is headed towards the intersection of Lake and Richardson streets. Officers Grayson and Miles are already in pursuit.”
Emilio sighed at the sound of the pager crackling to life. He had only been on break for a few minutes, and something had already interrupted him. He reached over to the pager, setting his coffee down. “This is officer Montag, I’m already at the intersection and am in pursuit.” As soon as he finished speaking he set the pager down before speeding out of the parking lot.
The newly-recruited officer was only a block away from the intersection, but he quickly realized that the suspect was already there. Sirens blaring, he got there just in time for the suspect to swerve left, the sharp turn causing one of the officers chasing them to lose control and crash into a street light.
Forcing himself not to focus too long on the sight of the vehicle up in flames, Emilio returned his attention to the police vehicle in front of him. Squinting, he could see a sleek, expensive-looking vehicle in front of that, its engine revving tauntingly at the police vehicles. It was sleek but still boxy, reminiscent of far older models, like the Camaro, or Mustang.
As the suspect veered towards more dense areas of the city, the chase quickly became a blur of sharp turns and quick movements. Right, left, right. Left, left, right, left. The buildings had become tightly packed, dingy, unkempt roads threatening to tear up the outer casing of the vehicles’ near weightless tires.
One too-quick turn had the police vehicle in front of Emilio flung from the narrow alley and vaulting across a railless overpass, crashing to the streets below. Wide-eyed, Emilo watched it tumble before snapping his eyes back to the road, turning sharply before beginning to spiral down a corkscrew of old road.
At the bottom was an empty, arena-like area, likely once used for robotic combat . Emilio was forced to stop at the end of the corkscrew, as the suspect had circled around to the back of the arena, dust rising from their trail.
Warily, Emilio watched as the headlights flicked on, cutting through the hazy air. There was the sound of a door shutting, and he found himself stunned as a familiar figure emerged from the dust. He quickly shut the sirens off, scrambling to get out of the car.
“Officer Montag! Fancy seeing you here,” the suspect called, flashing him a wide grin. Arms outstretched, he was as flashy as his vehicle-tailored black suit and glinting gold rings contrasting dark skin.
“Wh-What are you doing?” Emilio stammered. “Sebastian, I told you I can’t-” he tried to say, but was stopped by a finger pressed against his lips.
“All’s fair in fun and fraternization. And you weren’t so stiff when I saw you last night,” Sebastian chuckled, winking now. Emilio felt his cheeks turn red, spluttering as he was shushed.
“That’s because I wasn’t chasing you across the city!” he exclaimed, finally bringing himself to smack the other’s hand away. Sebastian burst into laughter now, only causing Emilio more distress. “Stop that! It’s not funny!” he exclaimed.
“Oh, you poor, poor thing. How about you call me tonight when you get off work, hm?” he hummed, patting the officer’s cheek before turning on his heel. “Don’t forget you lost me!” he called, beaming as he walked back to his car.
A moment later Emilio was watching Sebastian drive off, a trail of dust and a disgruntled officer left in his wake.
