In The Mirror
A young girl stares into a mirror,
And releases a despairing sigh.
“No!” she whispers harshly.
“You must never ever cry.”
She stares into that mirror,
And picks herself to pieces.
"You're fat and ugly," she hisses,
As her confidence decreases.
"Why?" she finally asks.
"Why do I feel this way?"
It's a question she repeats.
She asks it every day.
In her mind the darkness grows.
She knows not what to do.
Is there some escape?
Some way she can push through?
She finds she can not breathe.
She lives within a dream.
She feels like she is drowning.
She lets out a silent scream.
Is there hope for her future?
Will she one day break free?
She looks at her reflection,
And sighs, "Can't I just be me?"
