Happy Juneteenth everyone! This commemorates the day that many Americans finally gained freedom and independence. After the Emancipation Proclamation, white Texans were unwilling to release the enslaved people they kept hostage. Two years later, on this day in Galveston, TX, the last enslaved people were finally freed! America has a long way to go with racial equality, but this is a huge milestone that should be celebrated just like the fourth of July!
What to do to celebrate: support Black businesses and creators, get informed on the topic, cook, learn about Black history and culture, etc. I've been on a Black indie kick recently, so if you want music recommendations lmk!
🎉Ayyy happy Juneteenth!🎉
Happy Juneteenth! I'm trying to read more books by Black authors this month (especially ones that are pretty underhyped). Spotify's also done a lot of Juneteenth playlists with music from Black artists!
Merry Juneteenth everyone!

(Also, if you do have any music recommendations, I need some new stuff to listen to anyways, so hmu ^^)

Ama Lou is AMAZING, along with Dijon, Brent Faiyaz, Elujay, Kyle Lux, UMI, Willow, Miguel, Daniel Caeser, Syd, Janelle Monae, and Kali Uchis. These are all alternative rnb, indie, alternative, or soul/afro-futurism.
