So I’ve noticed whenever roleplaying with someone who has the “Insane” character, they kinda go over the top with it. Acting insane yes but it feels waaaaaay to stereotypical.
Anyway I then stole the idea of playing an insane character and I have no idea how to do that, I did some reading but found no real solid frame work on how to mechanically understand insanity as a personality trait on a character
(Hopefully what I said made sense to someone.)
Yes…Except someone even more insane sort of took the stage…
What do you think are the stereotypical traits of an insane character? We can target those and then maybe think about changes
Yea agreed on that.
But I think the stereotypes are the character being way too loony, like they do very unexpected things. (EX: your just talking to them normally and then they suddenly stab you sort of unexpected)
Also them going on rants (which any character could do but notably the insane character I refer to was ranting every second)
(I am not referring to the one character called Layla I am referring to another character(just an fyi Firebot))
Yes, the sudden change
Another one is suddenly mentally go somewhere doing things
Wait, i can help. I play an insane character, also my favorite character, named Asher.
Wait…Asher is insane? He seemed fine
Or maybe it's someone else with a similar name I'm thinking of
Nah, my Asher is a Fae. In mmy story Fae are these mystic elves that pretty much suck the souls of humans, all of the Fae are insane in some way they just keep it hidden. Asher is the most insane and he cant keep it hidden, he hears noises and voices in his head and is quite bipolar, he also has that whole insane personality.
OK…So I was probably thinking of someone with a similar name
I also has a somewhat insane character. Or more like unstable. Like she's somewhat normal sometimes and sometimes just…not there
From what I’ve gatheree in all of this is to play a good insane person is to try and be subtle about their insanity
But yea I had no clue Asher was insane
Yeah…
Also try, like, sometimes normal, sometimes just passed off as been weird
Yea that’s probably the most optimal way to play an insane person.
(I am still shocked that Asher is insane I had no clue)
Or…you do, just stay away from it
Like, stay safe
Because if you try to dig too deep into what they think, well, you'll go mad too
Probably.
But sometimes it’s worth the risk.
Maybe.
Not all the time though.
