I thought of all of this before I read the series but then I realised how similar they are.
Basically, my MC is from a northern small-ish settlement that is on the "line of defence" in the north. Her settlement is a base for the march-wardens and rangers that basically guards the border from the unknown woods north of the "line". And it's cold. And has long winters.
Kinda.
But the similarity sort of ends there, like there's nothing else really that's similar that's specific to GoT
I understand if you feel like your story is too similar to something else, and fear someone might point that out. There is a saying that goes like this: "Good poets borrow, great poets steal." There are tons of movies that take a lot of concepts from other movies. Hell, there are a lot of videos online explaining why The Lego Movie is the same movie as Guardians of the Galaxy. So if those two movies are allowed to have similar plot structures and character types, who says your book can't resemble Game of Thrones?
