It's a magic shoe right? It fit perfectly when it needed to. The fairygodmother could have made it grow and shrink when needed for a purpose. She was running away from the ball, prince chases, shoe falls off, there's a way to find her now. It also explains why it didn't fit anyone else. I mean, her feet weren't really that small.

HOWEVER!!!
The Fairy Godmother wanted Cinderella to have the perfect evening. Cinderella stressed out when she lost the shoe, probably stopping it from being the perfect night. This makes it seem less like it was planned.

But did the Fairy Godmother tell Cinderella about her plans? No! No wonder she stressed out!
Anywho she still had the other shoe

What's the point of having one shoe?

So she could prove she was the girl in case something happened to the other

The evil stepmother would find it and destroy it! Alas, all hope is lost. The end.

So if you wanted to shake things up

I'd suggest you start with some very cruel stepsisters shouting at her

She side-stepped? Originally, it was a "slipper", slight-heeled and rather open shoe, and it was made of glass, a rather slippery material considering she has danced all night! Side-stepping and twisting one's ankle would easily make even a perfect-fit shoe fall off.
