I wrote about 10,000 words of a novel Idea I've been planning since the 8th grade, but the more I write the more I realize that the story I'm trying to convey just isn't coming out the way I want it to. I have another idea, it's for a scifi book, but after writing one 7th of a novel I just feel so discouraged about starting something new, even though I'm excited about the idea. And I think part of the problem is that I'm afraid that I'll wreck this idea too, just by being a mediocre writer. So, if anyone has advice, cliche or not, I could use a boost in moral right about now.
I mean when I have writers block, I go back and look at things that I've written when I was younger and try to rewrite them/revise them
Or I just re-watch Galavant and scream "Off with his shirt!" at the top of my lungs
One of the two
I like the galavant suggestio. Together is one of my favorite songs. Oh and that recap at the end of season two, I know that entire thing by heart.
I know the feel dude. Sometimes it's best to take a break entirely. Try listening to some music maybe. I listen to movie scores that fit into my writing genre a lot and it helps.

Same oh my god
I always forget that the jester is also the narrator and that he randomly does recaps when I rewatch it though

ikr. The jester is my dude tho. Tag yourself in Galavant. I'm Sid, I kind of suck at things and rarely follow through, but I have great (that's an exaggeration) Hair. (aLSO now i have oFF WITH HIs shirt sTUCK IN my head, and you are to blame.
Never give up!!!
always love me a good Shia Labeouf :)

I would take a break, but as a hardcore procrastinator, if I stop writing something now it will take months for me to get back into it. Listening to music is a good idea though. I'll give it a try :)

I'm Richard, I'm kind of insane and annoy people easily, and I super believe in Tad Cooper

I'll be glad to recommend scores if you want, too :)

Some Scores would be great

Okay! So what genre? You mentioned you have a Sci-Fi one, but what about the other one?
(I won't be til a bit later, so I'll put up some suggestions and samples when I get back)
So one is sifi//space adventure(ish), and one is like an urban magical thing
(Okay, I think I've got some ambient sounds that could work too.)
Alrighty, so I've got a couple of ambient sounds sources for both Sci-Fi and the Urban Magical Thing. The youtube channel Seahouse Ambience and the site AmbientMixer.com. If you can't find something specific on those, you can search youtube by typing in ambient sound (insert what you're looking for here).
So for soundtracks and scores, I generally use them for scenes and worldbuilding in the sense that either the music goes along with the general feeling of a scene, or vibe of a location.
Here's what I've got for Sci-Fi:
Treasure Planet
(A bit more in the Sci-Fi Fantasy field, but still great!)

Atlantis: The Lost Empire
(I recommend this movie. It's got a couple of plot holes here and there, but one of Disney's coolest movies)

Aliens
(This is a movie I happened to watch part of at one point when I was younger, but now that I know more about it, I will probably never ever watch it. The score is great for intense scenes though. If you've got intensity in your story, I highly recommend this score.)

Avatar
(The one by James Cameron. Not the TV series. It's another one that could be considered more Sci-Fi fantasy, but you never know what inspiration you'll find.)

There's also this fellow called Driftmoon on youtube.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
(Again, more Sci-Fi Fantasy then anything, but it's good for writing adventurey things.)

(Also, anything Star Wars or Star Trek. There's also the Stargate movie score too.)
I've gotta go do something right now, could you give me a bit more info on your Urban Magical thing so I can narrow down my search for recommandations?
Thanks that's so helpful :)
