Have you ever been just writing and think of a random idea? Like "Hey what if I make a website for writing on a virtual potato"

@Paperok

I'm similar but it's writing topics, say I'm writing on my main work and tralala everythings fine but suddenly what if there was a world where everyone was locked in a game to be saved from the apocalypse and they are trying to find a way out. Then I think about that BUT SUDDENLY what if a girl traded minds with her pet! Etc

100% all the time. I also get an idea for a book, write some stuff and sort out plot, characters etc.And then I'm like WAIT WHAT IF I SET IT TO THE CURRENT DATE EXCEPT THE STORY HAPPENS OVER A TIME FRAME OF 24 HOURS AND IS ALL BEAUTIFULLY AESTHETICALLY PLEASING IN NEON LIGHTS AND STARRY SKIES.
…I'm bad at sticking to ideas.

@Lord_Dunconius

Sometimes. Often ideas come to me while I'm in a car. Not driving, not necessarily even moving, just in an automobile. I think we come up with those ideas when we're doing something we like. I find both cars and writing very therapeutic.

I come up with random ideas all the time… both good and bad. When I’m bored I also come up with characters and random scenes for my characters.

@Lord_Dunconius

Whenever I have flashes of inspiration like this, they always appear in movie form. While it's fun to feel like Peter Jackson, and I have the exact casting and script for this (if my story was turned into a movie), I have no idea how to put it down in print (not in screenplay form). It's just…annoying.

@m1dn1g7t_ri0ts_13

Yeah. That happens with me. Sometimes I even feel the emotions of my characters and when I get really happy or sad or angry, my friends wonder what’s up with me.

Exactly. I think that goes into the psychology of reading and writing. By absorbing the characters, we change ourselves. We model our own ideals off of fictional characters.
Take Hermione (The Wizarding World of HP), she inspired so many people to be total bookworms and nerds. This changed lives, as well as grades.
The mood changes experienced when writing a character are like a smaller version of that.

@m1dn1g7t_ri0ts_13

Yeah, definitely. Some of my characters are also based off of me. Whenever a partially base a character off of me, it makes it so much easier to write because I really feel the emotions my character does and that character would do what I would do in that situation.

I think a lot of our characters have little parts of us (and those around us) in them. Like one might have your artistic flair, while another would could have your brother's over-dramatic tendencies. And where you live, your culture, and your lifestyle affects how characters perceive things as well. It's really pretty fascinating to think about.
