How would you end a war?

It depends on a war. But typically… somebody has to win. There's usually a huge battle including a lot of loss. One side will have lost significantly more than the other side, and they would surrender. However you might just choose to completely destroy one side of the war and then boom it's over because there's literally nobody left to fight you.

What kind of war are we talking about here?

A lot of fiction has wars end very cleanly and neat, but don't be afraid to make it messy! Leave loose ends, factions that still think there's a war going on, let people be dissatisfied or angry at how it ends on both sides. Or just have it only end officially, with the opposing sides refusing to call continued skirmishes a war. You've got a tonne of options, just take a look back on history. ^^

In one of my favorite fairy tales a white knight rode through with the fabled peace treaty and the entire book that lead up to the 'war of the century' just kind of … died. And there was ONE. CHAPTER. LEFT. Didn't really find out what happened to everyone after the war that didn't happen, but the white knight did have a happier ending.
