I have some characters running a radio station and they need like nicknames to go by rather than their real names. Ex. if anyone has read Harry Potter remember how the twins and some others ran Potterwatch in DH? Their names were stuff like "Rapier", "Romulus", etc. Anyone have any ideas for how to come up with names like those for characters?

Things they're known for, things they like, a feature of theirs, an inside joke…

• A natural shortening of their full name, like Jonathan to Jon, Samuel to Sam or Sammy, etc.
• An inside joke
• Something about their appearance, like Shorty, Tiny, Blondie
• A hobby of theirs
• A fictional character they like/look like/act like

A reference to the origins of their name
For example, Romulus and Remus, the (Lee) Jordan River, Kingsley/Royal, etc
