forum Help with character who is forced into helping the "bad guys"

i did something similar where the protagonists father "killed" her best friend in order to sever her only real connection to the outer world. then I portrayed the protagonist as needy for her father (she doesn't know that a) it wasn't actually her friend and b) it was her dad). she becomes reliant on her father and becomes colder with her other friends, and is eventually forced to kill "rebellious" teenagers that refuse to follow the laws her father put into place.

I don't know if that's helpful or not but I hope it's at least a good conversation starter for you guys.

In mine the younger prince (protagonist's father's younger brother) was captured by the enemy who want to overthrow the kingdom, they made his older brother think he's dead and forced him to be their assassin, and threatening him with torture (like psychological torture) if he refused. After he got married, they threatened to kill his wife and sons if he stepped out of line. Later, during the time of my story, he manages to escape with one of his twin sons (the wife and other son were killed).
