This guy has some great videos on his channel, and I liked his one on the first chapter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUJOtTAJHXk

Other than that, it's ideal for the beginning to include your main character in some kind of active scene that has at least a little bit of conflict to interest the reader. You want the conflict to reflect the kind of book the rest of the story is going to be. (Like, you wouldn't open a book with a gripping martial-art-style fight scene and the rest of the book is an emotional romance set in the country with no fighting action whatsoever.)

I would suggest writing the part that inspires you most, even if it's not the beginning. There's no rule that the beginning has to be written first. :)

Hi Kat. Nice name ; D
Write a terrible first chapter. Like just do it. Write a terrible first chapter that gets you to your inciting incident (in mine, my two MCs get caught in a flash flood and fall down a waterfall and land in another world). And then from there I knew my story was headed. But I totally rewrote the entire first chapter after I finished the rest of the book. So just write a crappy first chapter and go and change it later.
Or don't even write it yet. Write from wherever you have ready rn, and then when you know how your story starts, just go back and write the first chapter.
(as you can see…. my solution is either write a terrible first draft or skip it entirely. But fix whatever you did later)

I sympathize for me that's the hardest part. I know whats going to happen but knowing how to start it is another. My thing that has been working for me is to skip ahead and write what you can and then fill it in when you finally decide on how to approach it. That way you are making progress and not procrastinating. Also another thing I do is type up several beginnings if I am stuck on how to open and I'll look at them and compare the pros and cons to them. Ger input and such. Rewriting can come later. Keeping the steam is the most important.
