Soooooo, hi y'all!
I just started a new novel, and my main character has box braids.
I know nothing.
Two girls in my grade have had them a few times, and they always looked s i c k, but I'm not really friends with either, so I don't really wanna ask them anything. Plus, today is a snow day, so I can't.
What I need to know is:
- Some color ideas– Natural (brown-black for my character), neon, natural with neon accents… What?
- Is it heavy? (I'm clueless y'all)
- How do you take care of them?
- EVERYTHING ELSE
Seriously fam, I know nothing!
Gimme the details!
Thanks,
Miriam 🐢

I've got this
-
Black or brown of any shade is usually a go to. Box braids are braids of your actual hair and weave, so people usually get a color that's similar to their hair color so it can't be seen. Now neon colors, that can be done as well, it all depends on the hair you get/buy. So you have a variety to choose from there.

It is very heavy, it's a LOT of hair

Usually get some oil products and anti-frizz to keep them shiny and to keep your hair from frizzing and to keep your scalp moisturized. And it's common to cover them with a cap or a scarf at night, it's all about preserving the hairstyle. You can even wash the braids, though you don't really need to very often, it's more about washing your scalp.

You can keep box braids in for up to two months before they a) Start looking a mess or b) Look a mess because your hair has grown and the braids are no longer tight. Now, getting these braids done can be an all- day endeavor. I remember I got box braids a few years back and it took 6 hours to get them done, I have a lot of hair so that could've been a reason why, but overall it's not very quick. You'll be getting them done for at LEAST 4-5 hours, AT THE LEAST. And once they are done. you will be in pain. Braids are very tight, soe you will have discomfort when you sleep, move your head, or try to style your hair, and you may experience some itching. But this won't last, maybe a couple a days then you'll be fine. They you can do different styles like: Put your hair in a bun, leave it half up/half down, and you can even find some really cute beads and clips to go in them.
There are a lot of tutorials on Youtube that you can watch if this didn't help much.

Please stop. I actually made this for answers I can use in my book. You're not being funny.

Is it always heavy, or is that something that you get used to it a few days, too?
You'll get use to once it gets easier to move without pain, after about a week or two, you won't really notice the weight unless it gets wet.
Your moms aren't funny. Yes, your adopted.

Hey, can you, uh…..FUCK OFF, PLEASE?!
This 'yo mom' bs has no place on this thread, it's about a hair style for a novel.
Ok bye communits.
If you're going to insult us, at least learn some basic spelling.

If I'm allowed to bounce off of this, what are some other hairstyles that an African-American highschool girl would be interested in wearing?
