When I first saw the Hunchback of Notre Dame I thought it was fine but the older I get and the more I keep rewatching the more I realize it was bloody fantastic and tragic and dark and horrifying and under appreciated in it's time. Definitely my all time favorite Disney, That movie is messed up yo, I love it, the music and the art is breathtaking and if you want to learn to write a realistically terrifying villain I highly recommend it

YES HUNCHBACK
I LOVE THE SOUNDTRACK
it's honestly the most messed up disney movie
it explores themes of like corruption in religion, child abuse, discrimination, etc.
it's amazing

@Azuresbend

Dude I could talk about this movie all day, I mean it's characters are so great, it's dynamics are so rich and there's so many levels to everything. Hellfire is a jam. And these characters are some of the most courageous and real world in like…probably most Disney. My favorite scene is Phoebus plunging his torch into the water barrel at the mill finally choosing to stand up against evil and then being promptly left for dead because of it.

@Azuresbend

Have you ever seen that cut where it's Hunchback but with all the gargoyle scenes removed? Because it's about 400% scarier without the comic relief.

@Azuresbend

Yeah I mean between all the actual murder and very unsubtly implied rapey desires I think it may have been a good idea to add a little levity.
Oh so there are the two camps on the Gargoyles, that they're real or that they're just all in his head, what do you think?

@Azuresbend

Yeah I think they're probably just real cause it is disney after all but I heard a really interesting and pretty dark theory. You know in the final battle how the gargoyles like fight people and spit rocks and pour hot magma on people and all those fun things, well a lot of people (like me tbh) use that as evidence as to them actually being real but the theory is that Quasi was imagining them and used them as scapegoats because he couldn't psychologically handle that he was hurting and killing literally dozens of people who were just following Frollo's orders like he had been his whole life. So he told himself that his aractextural friends were the actual murders instead of himself.
Great right?

Yep, that's what I was thinking. At first he imagined the gargoyles out of sheer loneliness, but afterwards they became something much darker.
