Alright so
In that episode with Lars, Sadie, Ronaldo, and Steven when they were in the lighthouse, Lars says “You know I can’t let people see me like that!” While talking about the photo of him “screaming like a girl.” Ron asks him why he cares about what people think of him, and he says, “You wouldn’t say that if people said things about you!”

Also when Sadie is talking about the gem she says it was just hurt and felt so afraid and like it was trapped in its body (Yeah I know, it’s an old and overused and often inaccurate trans trope) and Lars gets super defensive, probably thinking that she's talking about him and not the gem.

There’s also the point that in the episode where you actually meet Lars’ parents, his mom calls him “Laramie” by accident and she seems really upset/sorry, and she feels terrible about it and her voice even cracks a little, and if “Lars” was just a nickname she wouldn’t feel so bad about it

Hmm… these are very valid points. I am now hopping onto this headcanon
