So for school, we're doing a poetry unit and I have to do paint chip poetry. I'm deciding between white, purple, and green. Any suggestions, tips, help, etc…?

@.The.Girl.Who.Lived.

We get to pick a color of one of those paint sample/paint chip things you get to test colors and stuff. I first need to pick a color, then I need to write a poem. Here are the requirements:

A title

AT LEAST 1 simile or metaphor (underlined)

Length - 8 lines

You can rhyme, but you don’t have to!

Circle all words that contribute
to your poem’s mood

Spelling/Grammar is appropriate – no errors!

8 lines minimum, or just 8 lines period?
Also what is it that you're having trouble with? Ideas? Figuring out how/whether to rhyme? All of the above?

You should probably pick the color you think you could write about with the strongest words and emotions (you know, since you need that simile/metaphor and you have to indicate what affects the mood)
Also since you get to pick formatting and rhyme scheme, I suggest rhyming, but not every line, so either maybe a sonnet-like format if you want something more structured, or this other format that's a personal favorite of mine. It's set up ABAC DEDF… and so on until the final two lines, which are a rhyming couplet. Or anything else you want, but it sounds a lot more serious and less playful if not everything rhymes right away.

Hey I can problobly help, but like only If it can rhyme.

Ahhh okay. I made a document and listed all of the words that go with the colors I'm choosing from. Most of them seem easy to write about, but hard at the same time.

Yeah. I will say this: start writing random stuff down, and you might find a little something you like. At the end of the day, though, it's just an assignment, and as long as you follow the instructions correctly, I doubt how "good" of a poet you are will have an affect on your grade.

Awesome! Let me know how it goes! Also, purple just happens to be my favorite color, so if I were in your shoes, that probably would've been my color of choice. One more tip: if you're running out of things to write about, just look up the kind of symbolism purple has.

I personally would go with red because it's the easiest.
