they're usually out on tuesdays or wednesdays depending on how zj is feeling

Hi everyone! I do not have DID, but I am writing a story with a character who does, and I myself am very curious about it. I've done some studying of the subject already, but if any of you are willing to answer questions about it, I would be honored and it would be very helpful since I really don't want to create an inaccurate character! Mostly I'd just like to know if there's anything I should really avoid, like myths and stereotypes about DID that aren't true. Thank-you in advance! :)

This is a huge myth about DID, and it's NOT TRUE!!

seconded- please avoid making your character violent or a villain. if you send me a PM, i can give you some firsthand experience / answer more questions.

That's what I was gathering from my research….it's really hard not to add in that one "over-protective" alter (that's the right word right??) that wants to hurt other people, but I'm definitely trying to avoid that! My character is a good person and I try not to define him by his DID as well.
I do have a quick question about that though–is it possible that an alter might be extra defensive or rude because they want to protect the system from danger? My character is often threatened so I was wondering if that would happen in his case.

Okay, that's good to know. One other thing I'd like to know (if you don't mind all these questions) is what causes you to switch from one alter to the other? I heard it's different for everyone, but does there have to be some kind of trigger? Is it random? Can you ever switch deliberately? That part really confuses me, sorry!

All of the above, I guess? There are things that can trigger a switch, alters can force out(meaning they push their way out of the headspace), and we can plan a switch.

We only have two alters..
there's me: My name is Graye, I'm 16 and Non-binary, and I'm bisexual. They/Them or He/Him
then there's Lily: She/Her, 15 and Female, and she's straight.
I'm The dominant one..
